A bench-press variation performed without pushing through the feet. In this demonstration the bar travels toward a higher point on the chest while the elbows move farther out from the torso than in the related tucked-elbow press. The trunk remains stable on the bench.
Lie on a flat bench under the bar and extend the legs without using the feet to drive from the floor.
Take an even grip, unrack the bar and hold it under control above the chest.
Lower the bar toward the higher chest point shown in the video, allowing the elbows to move farther out from the torso.
Press the bar back up under control and repeat without pushing through the feet.
Keep the shoulders and trunk steady on the bench throughout the press.
Use a load that lets you control the higher-chest bar path without bouncing.
Pull the elbows close to the torso and move the bar lower on the chest, changing this variation’s demonstrated path.
Bounce the bar or use the legs to drive the weight upward.
