A bench-press variation performed without pushing through the feet. In this demonstration the bar travels toward the lower chest while the elbows stay closer to the torso. The upper body presses the bar as the trunk remains stable on the bench.
Lie on a flat bench under the bar and extend the legs without using the feet to drive from the floor.
Take an even grip, unrack the bar and hold it under control above the chest.
Lower the bar toward the lower chest while keeping the elbows closer to the torso, as demonstrated.
Press the bar back up under control and repeat without pushing through the feet.
Keep the shoulders and trunk steady on the bench throughout the press.
Use a load that lets you control the lower-chest bar path without bouncing.
Flare the elbows and move the bar higher on the chest, changing this variation's demonstrated path.
Bounce the bar or use the legs to drive the weight upward.
